GAS
GIANTS
Sat behind a massive mixing desk manned by an
ever-patient studio manager, Wilfredo Acosta,
we wait for the next scene to be set up. Alistair
Lock, stalwart of many a Big Finish audio production,
discusses matters with executive producer, Simon
Moorhead and director, Andrew Mark Sewell, keen
to get what’s needed to give him a smooth
post-production process. Script Executive Ben
Aaronovitch is on hand to give sage-like advice
on anything and everything, from how names and
planets are pronounced, to explaining the technical
specifications of the Liberator.

For Ben, the recording is a pleasure – actors
may need to be repositioned, but without continuity
and special effects to work on, there’s much
less waiting around than a TV recording (averaging
an impressive 45 minutes recording a day) and he’s
delighted to be able to focus on the script. Meanwhile
the initial pressure of keeping to the schedule and
the ever-changing scene set-ups is wearing off and
Andrew’s direction is being well received by
the cast. After a quick discussion between Andrew,
Ben and Simon, the actors are reminded that gas giants
and red dwarves are the stuff of every day to the
characters and should be said with an off-hand casualness,
and the recording continues.
