Andrew Mark Sewell

26th June 2018 /Posted byFilipe Santos / 0

Andrew Mark Sewell is the founder of transmedia company B7 Media. A former senior BBC executive and now a multi award-winning radio drama producer/director, comic book publisher and indie filmmaker.

Sewell’s name has become synonymous with a new wave of cinematic sounding audio drama. Notable drama productions for BBC Radio 4 include Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles, cult BBC sci-fi series Blake’s 7, Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot and the acclaimed Dan Dare: The Audio Adventures series (inspired by the 1950s Eagle comic). Series for Audible Originals include the docudrama The Space Race and psychological sci-fi thriller The Effect – winner of Best Podcast Drama at this year’s NYC Festivals Radio Awards (2022). Most recently Sewell directed the crime-horror drama Theatre of the Damned – inspired by a true story about the birth of the Grand Guignol in 1920s Paris, sci-fi comedy Venna’s Planet (based on Robin Evans’ graphic novel) starring Amelia Tyler, Sally Knyvette, Misha Crosby and Caroline Munro and co-created and directed Greenborne a new post-Covid radio soap opera launched across the UK. Future projects include the audio and graphic novel sci-fi thriller Pilgrim and 1940s wartime naval drama Unsinkable starring Brian Cox, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Nathalie Emmanuel and John Malkovich.

An Arthur C. Clarke Award nominee for Audible docudrama series The Space Race, Sewell has also won the prestigious NYC International Radio Program ‘Best Director’ Award for Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot (BBC Radio 4) and for Dan Dare: The Audio Adventures (BBC Radio 4 Extra) and most recently won ‘Best Drama & Fiction Producer’ Audio Production Awards 2022 (he was also a nominee in 2015 and 2017).

After a long association with the comic book industry in 2021 Sewell launched B7 Comics, a new publishing division offering new comics spanning science fiction, mystery and adventure. B7’s debut title was an original graphic novel based on the sci-fi noir story Pilgrim, written by John Freeman with art by Neil Edwards. Another title is Hancock: The Lad Himself by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page, offering a unique take on the life story of Tony Hancock, one of the UK’s most celebrated comedians, reimagined as a graphic novel.

Other credits include UKTV’s Ghostwatch LIVE (credited as the first live paranormal investigation on television); Echoes of the Past, Tomorrow’s World+; Sonnet 155 featuring Richard Briers (his last stage performance), Benedict Cumberbatch, Hattie Morahan, Paul McGann and Lisa Dillon; and acclaimed indie films Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont,Exit Thread and most recently The Colour of Spring.
